Webinar Recap: Funding Options for Energy-Efficient Building Renovations Across Europe

Did you miss our Webinar? Read our recap on funding schemes for energy-efficient building renovations and the significance of Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) in accessing these subsidies!

Energy renovation can be very expensive. Incentives and funding to renovate underperforming buildings are crucial for achieving a decarbonized building stock in all EU countries. The revision of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive emphasizes the importance of Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) as tools not only to express the measured energy efficiency grade of a building but also as a marketing tool for citizens to demonstrate the value of their properties.

We explored the role and place of EPCs in the funding landscape of energy efficient renovations in Europe with the help of Rui Fragoso, Head of Buildings and Efficiency of Resources at ADENE, Portugal's National Energy Agency, Jana Lange, Expert for Energy Efficiency and Heating in Buildings at the Franco-German Office for Energy Transition (OFATE), and Nicole Hartl, Senior Expert at the Centre for Climate Neutral Buildings & Neighbourhoods at the Austrian Energy Agency.

crossCert at the World Sustainable Energy Days Conference

5-8 March, 2024 in Wels, Austria

Using the building certification methodology of another country: What have we learned?

Our colleague, Antonio Gómez (University of Zaragoza) presented the project's objectives, methodology, and the results we have achieved from the cross-testing activities at the Poster session of the Conference. The results focused on the experiment on building energy performance certificates (EPCs). The process of applying one country's certification methodology to buildings from another country has been challenging due to differences in climate data, language and terms, and treatment of certain building elements and features such as thermal bridges or user behaviour in the energy rating calculation.
